At first I was skeptical about purchasing Nero 11 Platinum because of several poor reviews, but since I've worked with Nero 7 and had no significant problems with it, I decided to give the trial a shot.
Unfortunately, the trial doesn't allow you to burn Blu-rays or even work on a Blu-ray project. I still played around with making DVDs on the trial and I must say that the user interface has definitely improved since Nero 7. Here are features that I found helpful but not listed anywhere from what I could find : 1.
While working on the Blu-ray you can easily access how mush space your video files are taking up on the Blu-ray 2. You can choose whether you want to burn to Single Layer or Dual Layer Be sure to use ImgBurn to see which one your drive supports and buy the corresponding Blu-ray discs 3.
You can add main videos in my case, separate VHS tapes that can be selected from the main menu. Once selected, you reach the chapter menu, for that main video, to choose the portions of that video you want to watch. Also, within each main video you can add other videos that you don't want selected from the main menu by drag-and-drop. I tried the free trial and liked it so I ordered the full product at a great price from Amazon. I uninstalled the free trial since it was an old version Nero 9.
Then I installed the new Nero 11 Platinum and the party started. It installs a program and immediately tells you to download updates Holly Molly! Three hours and three reboots later all the updates were installed. Tired I went to bed and decided to get to use it the next day. The next morning there were seven new icons on my desk top Nero 9 reappeared, parts of Nero 10 and the four pieces of Nero At least the Icons for Nero 11 all had an '11' in the name so I deleted the short cuts for everything else.
So far so good. But then every time I click on a video file, instead of going to the Nero 11 program it boots to the Nero 9 version. You cannot even go to choose other program with a right click because the program you want is not listed.
If you specify the shortcut on the desk top it takes you to a Menu where you can select the program. I guess 'Windows 7' does not let you specify a shortcut as the default so you can not make the 'Open With' permanent. I'll work around the frustration but not thrilled with the whole thing. I have used Nero for years and I read a lot of these comments before I ordered Nero I should have paid more attention, but I thought that I would be able to overcome any shortcomings since I was so familiar with the product.
They have made Nero almost unusable. I can't find a way to accomplish some tasks that were easy in prior versions. It used to be so simple but no more. Their Kwik Media is anything but Quick. It takes forever to get things to work and I failed on some attempts. The organization has changed radically, and I no longer know where functions are. In summary, I will be looking for a program that is easier to use and is not so bloated as to be ridiculous.
I believe it added 7 Gigabytes to my disk in total and there was no option to eliminate some of the functions that I do not use and didn't want cluttering my computer.

There are various functions that I think the product is capable of doing something as simple as ripping a CD to MP Yes the process worked again after you spent time figuring out how to make it happen Very frustrating.
Fortunately, editing, creating and ripping DVD's of your videos works well. This feature was pleasing. Nero 9 that I used previously, was far superior.
